Class Description

Meditation and mindfulness are practices that help us remain calm, clear and positive all the time, even when faced with difficulties and challenges. Through meditation we can train our mind to overcome negative states of mind and increase states of mind that promote inner peace and happiness. Join us to learn methods that bring about a greater sense of well being, transforming your life and making it more meaningful.

Each class is 75 minutes long and broken down into several sections. We begin with an introduction on the topic to be covered. Then we still our minds with a guided breathing meditation. This is followed by a commentary on the actual meditation practice, then guided meditation on the topic, we engage in brief discussion then close with time for questions and answers.

All levels welcome, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Each class is self-contained and can be enjoyed on a drop-in basis. No special clothing is required and chairs are provided.

We are studying from the book How to Solve Our Human Problems available for purchase at the class or online through the publisher Tharpa. This text is a practical manual for daily life that shows how we can develop and maintain inner peace, how we can reduce and stop our experience of problems, and how we can bring about positive changes in our lives that will enable us to experience deep and lasting happiness.

To be successful, however, we need to read, listen to, contemplate and meditate on the instructions given. If possible, students should check this webpage weekly for class topics and read appropriate sections in the book prior to class. This helps deepen one’s understanding of Buddha’s teachings when heard. After class there will be time for personal reflection and contemplation on the meaning of the teachings within setting of the beautiful Botanic Garden.

Classes held rain or shine.  All meditation classes are given outside in the amphitheater or, alternatively, inside the Rose Garden gazebo on rainy days.
