From the text The New Meditation Handbook “Without inner peace, there is no real happiness at all.  The more we control our mind, the more our inner peace increases and the happier we become.  Therefore, the real method to make ourself happy is to control our own mind.  By controlling our mind — in particular, our anger, our attachment, and especially our self-grasping — all of our problems will disappear.  We will experience deep inner peace and be happy all the time.  Problems, suffering, and unhappiness do not exist outside the mind — they are feelings and so they are part of our mind.  Therefore, only by controlling our mind can we permanently stop our problems and make ourself and others truly happy.”

Our Monday evening drop-in meditation classes provide a basic introduction to Buddhist teachings and meditation that are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators. Each Monday we will explore a new topic from Buddha’s teachings, a specific aspect of meditation methods, and how to apply what we have learned to our daily lives.

General Program Format

Each class is 90 minutes long and is broken down into several sections. We begin with an intro to the topic covered, then we still our minds with a guided 10 minute breathing meditation.  This is followed by a 30 minute commentary on the actual meditation practice, then 15 minute guided meditation on the topic, a 10 minute intra-class discussion and any time left will be for questions and answers. After class feel free to stay and visit and discuss with like-minded practitioners. These classes are offered as an on-going series, but they are also self contained and can be taken individually. Please feel free to drop in on a class-by-class basis. No pre-registration is required.
