HOW TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE AND FIND HAPPINESS WITHIN
The General Program (GP) class provides a straightforward presentation of Buddhist view, meditation, and the establishment of a daily practice. This meditation class is suitable for beginners and intermediate students. In this series, we will learn practical methods to distinguish disturbed states of mind from peaceful states. States of mind that disturb our inner peace such as anger, jealousy and desirous attachment, are called ‘delusions,’ and these are principal causes of all suffering. We may think that our suffering is caused by other people, by poor material conditions or by society, but in reality it all comes from our own deluded states of mind. The essence of spiritual practice is to reduce and eventually completely eradicate our delusions, and replace them with permanent inner peace.
Through studying Buddha’s teachings and applying this time tested ancient wisdom to our complicated modern lives we can bring about positive changes. This enables us to experience deep and lasting happiness with stability and confidence that nothing can destroy. How wonderful!
In this series of classes we will study the instructions contained within ‘How to Transform Your Life’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Students can purchase this book through the publisher Tharpa or in our bookstore. In every class the teacher will lead the student through a breathing meditation, give commentary on a particular section of the text, guide a meditation on the subject matter and offer discussion. Anyone can learn basic meditation and experience the benefits that come from having a peaceful mind. This drop-in General Program class is suitable for everyone, regardless of faith, background or experience. No prior registration is necessary.

What can I expect in each class?
Each class is two hours long and is broken down into several sections. The teacher begins with an introduction on the topic covered. Then the student stills their mind with a guided 10 minute breathing meditation. This is followed by a 50 minute commentary on the actual meditation practice. Then the teacher leads a 15 minute guided meditation on the topic covered. Students participate in a 15 minute intra-class discussion and the class closes with 15 minutes for questions and answers.
Classes are designed to be self contained and can be enjoyed on a drop-in basis
